Biographical / Historical

George Redman Tucker was the son of William M. and Catherine Tucker of Franklin county, Arkansas. He was born on August 19, 1855, in Arkansas. From various genealogical sources information has been gathered about his life, though it is sporadic and largely undocumented in primary resources. Tucker had been in Texas during the Civil War, but was back in Franklin county, Arkansas by the time of the 1870 census, listed with his sister, Martha Tucker Knox and brother-in-law, William Alvin Knox. By 1880 he was in Montague county, Texas as a peace officer. He moved to Oklahoma around 1900 as a deputy marshal and later sheriff of Waurika, Oklahoma. He possibly had two children and may have been married twice. He is listed on the 1880 census for Montague county, Texas. He is not listed in the 1890 census. He was in Oklahoma, mostly in Carter and Jefferson counties by 1900 and later.

George Redman Tucker died at the age of 89 in Ardmore, Carter county, Oklahoma, on January 21, 1945, and was buried in Ardmore on January 23. His son, Bert Tucker, informed the county and signed his father’s death certificate.
