Biographical / Historical

Hamley & Company was established as a saddle company in 1883 by J. J. and Henry Hamley. In 1905, the company moved and opened a storefront in Pendleton, Oregon. J. J. Hamley eventually had sole ownership of the company, and became heavily involved in Pendleton's rodeo scene. Hamley & Company provided trophy saddles to the Pendleton Round-Up, while J. J. Hamley helped organized the first Pendleton Round-Up and served as the rodeo's director for some time.

Hamley & Company still operates out of the same storefront in Pendleton that it has been in since 1905. The building is registered as a historical site, and the store has expanded to included western clothing and goods as well as a restaurant. In 2019, Hamley & Company was bought by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, who now manage operations of the store and restaurant.
